With the HD re-release of Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 looming on the horizon, Square Enix recently released the full list of trophies that will be associated with each game. Final Fantasy X: psnprofiles.com/trophies/2358-FINAL-FANTASY-X-HDFinal Fantasy X-2: psnprofiles.com/trophies/2359-FINAL-FANTASY-X-2-HDYeah...I don't think I'm going to be able to platinum Final Fantasy X, that's for sure. Fans' worst fears especially came to light upon discovering that a trophy is awarded for dodging 200 consecutive lightning strikes to obtain one of the items required to power up Lulu's Celestial Weapon. In my opinion, that only scratches the surface. There is also a trophy for winning a Blitzball match (and another for winning a tournament)...yeah, back in the day, I did some hardcore studying on how to succeed at Blitzball, but never did I win a single game. It's such a poorly executed minigame that I don't see how anyone could possibly make heads or tails of it. Let's see, there's also a trophy for completing the Sphere Grid for one character (and another for all characters)...uh, seriously? I played the game for 100+ hours, and I feel like I only completed the Sphere Grid at about 25% per each character in my main party. The Sphere Grid, to those who don't know, is absolutely ENORMOUS. Unless there's a faster way to gain EXP, I doubt I'll be getting this one. Final Fantasy X-2, on the other hand, looks doable. Granted I never achieved 100% completion, but I did practically accomplish everything else, and that includes defeating Trema. Is anyone else looking forward to this HD collection?

I REALLY want to try foor the Platinum in X, but the only things that would stop me are the lightning dodging and the chocobo racing. Everything else is fairly doable.
In regards to building your sphere grid fater, there is a way to grind in the monster arena. Simply put, all you have to do is fight the King Cactuar (or whatever it's called), which I believe you get from catching all the monsters in the Thunder Plains. Equip your party with weapons that have the Overdrive->AP ability, then set two people's overdrive to Comrade (where they gain from another party member getting hurt), and keep the other on Self. Or you could switch everyone to comrade, but I prefer this way. Regardless, when someone gets hit by his 10,000 Needles attack, they die and everyone else gets hella AP. Revive, rinse, and repeat until the Cactuar eventually runs away or you beat him.

The lightning dodging could be doable in theory, but only if, say, I made it my goal to dodge 10 strikes in a row, save, and quit to main menu (except I don't remember if you can quit to the main menu in the game; I seriously hope so). And as was mentioned @ Gamers' Retreat, Blitzball will be a major challenge for me. I'll need to read up on it as much as I can.

Seriously, Square Enix? After 10 years of being hounded for a Final Fantasy VII remake, you choose to rerelease the game "exclusively" to the PS4 when it's been available on the PlayStation Store for years? -facepalm- It's FFVII. All SE has to do is say the name and fans go crazy. I don't actually think it's all that great to be honest, but I do wish SE was more open to listening to the fans as they often seem to do exactly the opposite of what fans want, and on that principle alone, I think SE has lost it. Ok, there is one area where they've done pretty well and that's in their work with Eidos, but on the Japanese front the only decent thing they've done aside from straight ports in the past gen is the Kingdom Hearts collections. To be honest I was never expecting much from them to begin with, and this recent announcement is just like SE, so I don't think this is even really news worthy, though once again, anything with FFVII in the title is sure to make headlines. I lined a piece that's currently in its proofing stage for that reason.

Nice! I look forward to reading that. But I don't think fans would respond to this rerelease as positively, or at least not entirely. The game is already available for digital download right now! And giving it an HD makeover wouldn't do very well for it as it is a PS1 game. I'm sure there are those who will eat it up, but I'm sure that most fans view this as I do, that being that it's a very pointless announcement. >< I was just thinking that, now that you mention it! They've been wonderful with Kingdom Hearts (I'm grateful for that much, at least). As long as Kingdom Hearts III proves to be a perfect ending to the story, I'd go so far to say that Kingdom Hearts is a perfect series (as long as we all forget about Kingdom Hearts: Re:coded; I just endured 3 hours' worth of cutscenes in the II.5 collection, and…yeah). EDIT: Actually, I take that back. Square Enix polled fans for what they would like to see bundled with the Limited Edition release of Kingdom Hearts II.5--most fans replied by saying that they liked the art book that came with Kingdom Hearts I.5, adding that they would like to see that again. Instead, they included a Disney Parks pin. A lot of people were upset about that. EDIT 2: And then there's this: kotaku.com/the-internet-reacts-to-final-fantasy-vii-on-ps4-1668134367?utm_campaign=Socialflow_Kotaku_Facebook&utm_source=Kotaku_Facebook&utm_medium=Socialflow

I do think it's great to see classic games make their way onto as many systems as possible regardless of how I may feel about certain games and that's something we haven't seen enough of on current gen systems yet, but I also don't think this recent announcement should have been treated as something big, because it really isn't.

All very good reasons! Though where are the comments? I don't see any. Very few people seem to have an account for the platform that site uses. Thankfully we can always count on N4G to pick up the slack: n4g.com/news/1637460/top-7-reasons-why-the-final-fantasy-vii-ps4-announcement-isnt-that-bad To be honest I was expecting N4G to flay me alive(figuratively speaking), but for a change they have actually been quite respectful for the most part. Either the world is ending or they're just in a good mood due to the holidays.

I just remembered, wasn't the PS4 port of Final Fantasy VII supposed to release this Spring? There are only 20 days of Spring left and there's still no release date. I think Square Enix got discouraged by the slew of negative feedback they received for the trailer, and so they're pretending that it was never going to happen. Heh, who knows? Maybe it was the wake-up call that they needed.

All manners of excitement aside, I have a few things to say now that this is finally happening. Because, as Tross has very well pointed out previously, not everyone will be happy with how this remake turns out, as leaving the game the way it was with only updated textures would leave some fans feeling disappointed as a part of them also expects something new, and at the same time, doing something new would make other fans perceive the game as being unloyal to the original game. As someone who didn't exactly grow up on this game as others have (I believe I first played it in 2007), I think I have a pretty good idea of what I'd like to see in a way that satisfies both types of fans:
- First and foremost, the music. It'll be a given that it'll be reorchestrated from the ground up, but that may not necessarily be a good thing considering how poor the remixed tracks were in FFX HD. On top of that, FFVII has been associated with classical/heavy metal blends since Advent Children, which has worked for both that and Crisis Core, however most of the original game's music would not fit in that style (with exceptions such as "Those Who Fight Further"). With that said, the music could easily suck. As long as they stick to a classical style that remains true to the original's sound, there should be no reason for the music to disappoint.
- Cloud needs to drop the attitude. Specifically, I'm referring to his rude, dickish behavior at the start of the game, which suddenly vanishes after the first few hoursl. Not only was it inconsistent with the rest of the game, it also doesn't fit where he came from in Crisis Core.
- Voiceovers. That much is a given, though I would still like to see text boxes mixed in from time to time.
- "This guy are sick." As much as I hate bad spelling/grammar, that mistranslation was classic. It needs to stay. Obviously it shouldn't occur in spoken dialogue, but in one of the aforementioned text boxes.
- Bring Aeris back in the equation. Because the game is almost 20 years old, it is no longer considered a spoiler to say that she dies halfway through the game. My problem with this, at least in the original, is that Aeris is NEVER spoken of again for the rest of the game (except for maybe a "This one's for Aeris" line before the final boss). Obviously this is because Aeris was not originally intended to be killed off until later in development, but now that the remake is happening, it would be nice to have the story's most influential character be reflected upon from time to time. While we're on the subject…Aeris vs. Aerith. I have a feeling that they're going to go with Aerith this time around, as that was how her name was pronounced in Crisis Core, however that pronunciation always puts a bad taste in my mouth. I suppose I wouldn't mind either way.
- Two things about the over world: first, I don't want to see it from a bird's-eye view. I have nothing against it, it's just that nothing detaches me further from the character I'm supposed to identify with than when I'm seeing him/her from a top-down perspective. If the over world could look like Final Fantasy XV, I'd be all right with that. I also think it would enhance the exploration aspect of the game were it to appear this way. Second, I'd like the airship to remain the same; by that I mean I'd like to be able to fly it across the world as opposed to selecting a location and having the game automatically take me there. The series has adopted the latter form of airship flight since the PS2, which sorely takes the fun out of having an airship in the first place.
- Combat system should remain as-is. What worries me, though, is that RPG's get torn apart if they adopt the traditional turn-based battle system. I never had a problem with this, and I'm worried that Square Enix might try to change it. FFVII used an ATB battle system, which has always been good enough to keep me on my toes during a fight knowing that my enemy could attack at any moment.
- Raise the difficulty a little. I remember my first play through of the game being all too easy. I never had a problem until I faced Sephiroth's second form, whose Supernova ability inflicted Confuse on one of my party members and slaughtered my entire party as a result (then I farmed for Ribbons and that was no longer a problem). In short, to quote Thor, "At least make it a challenge for me!"
- New dungeons. Not too many, but maybe a little more than a few.
- Drop random encounters in favor of adopting the Final Fantasy XIII encounter system. Scratch that. Make it more like the new Star Ocean game Square Enix showed at their press conference. I think FFVII would benefit from a seamless transition between field and battle.
Those are my thoughts on the remake for now. I may come back and update this list if something else crosses my mind.

^I have to admit, my thoughts on FFVII aside, I'm impressed that SE listened to their fans for a change and actually went and did something that has been in high demand for so long. I may even check out this remake once the price is reasonable, and maybe it will change my opinion on FVII (I'm not counting on it though). I kind of hope random encounters are removed. Maybe the system of having enemies on screen to initiate turn-based battles with would work really well for this game. I'm still expecting the same simplistic, noob-friendly gameplay and the average story with a cliched environmental message that most people seem to think is Shakespeare, but maybe I'll enjoy it more in the remake. I hope Cloud isn't too emo this time around because voice acting will just make his worst traits 10x more annoying.
