(THREAD ORIGINALLY CREATED BY SWEETPOISON13)
Who here has heard about this intriguing new survival horror title? Check out this gameplay video for it if you have not already done so!
Shinji Mikami is directing The Evil Within and this video game should be available sometime next year. Shinji Mikami has worked on some solid survival horror titles in the past so I'm confident that this new one will be something special. Even if it isn't I'm sure that I will enjoy it. How many truly traditional survival horror video games are coming out these days?
This video game is about a detective who investigates the site of a mass murder and finds himself in more than a few predicaments. Storyline details aren't in plentiful supply right now because, much like some of the Silent Hill video games, its storyline is part of the experience. Keep an eye on this gem. I might try to update this thread with news and information in my spare time.

The Evil Within will be available in North America on Tuesday, August 26th (unless the developers change their minds). I guess six months isn’t too far away (things could be a lot worse). Quality survival horror video games are long overdue mind you and I’m personally not looking forward to very many video games anymore. *waits*

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, but if even one of these upcoming survival horror games hits the nail on the head, then we'll have more survival horror than we've had in the last few years, which is none. The fact that a small handful of them are due out this year is quite encouraging, to say the least. Come to think of it, I did download Outlast on my ps4. I was distracted by Danganronpa, but now that I've finished that, maybe I'll move on to Outlast.

It is just that some people are so broken and jaded with respect to the survival horror genre that they look past video games like this that are trying so hard to recapture that magic. They think to themselves that the video game industry will never again see quality survival horror video games and they end up missing out on them when they do become available. It is a vicious cycle and, quite frankly, a terrible outlook to have but I would be lying if I said that I didn’t see it, especially from survival horror veterans. I’m utterly disgusted at what has become of the Resident Evil and Dead Space video games but I can still recognize a quality survival horror video game when I see one. That doesn’t seem to be the case for everyone. A lot of people seem to just look for reasons not to experience newer survival horror video games. I don’t get it. Do they want to keep believing that the survival horror genre is dead? That train of thought isn’t going to work when video games like Outlast, Slender: The Arrival, Daylight, The Evil Within, SOMA, and Alien: Isolation are either out or in development.

That train of thought isn’t going to work when video games like Outlast, Slender: The Arrival, Daylight, The Evil Within, SOMA, and Alien: Isolation are either out or in development. I can see why people would be pessimistic about the future of survival horror genre, so maybe they gave up hope, and stopped keeping track of the genre, and just aren't aware of all those titles. I never would have predicted that we would get so many good survival horror titles this year. I can vouch for Outlast. The sense of vulnerability caused by the inability to fight back reminds me a little of the brief Sherry Birkin stage in RE2. The first person perspective was a good choice IMHO, and the sense of fear when hiding, and trying to stealthily avoid an adversary, makes the game that much better IMHO. I'm actually impressed. I wasn't expecting much from Outlast. I'm really looking forward to the rest of this year. All I wanted was one good survival horror game, and we got one, with even more promising titles on the way. The Evil Within is one of my most anticipated, as is Daylight.

I just wanted to let everyone here know that I have an information thread for The Evil Within over in the official forums. Some of you have probably seen it by now. Feel free to support it in your spare time. I will bump it every now and then with discussion topics and keep the original post relatively up-to-date.
