I'm not sure where to post a thread about this game in the ps forums, since the label system confuses me sometimes. Anyways, I've been playing it non-stop for the last few days. I'm posting it in the survival/horror section, because that seems to be the most accurate place to post about a psychotic killing game where survival is key, and Monokuma makes my skin crawl just as much as the Heavy Rain dlc. Technically the game is a horror themed social sim/visual novel/point and click adventure, but whatever. Anyways, needless to say, I love this game. I waited for its release date since it was first announced for NA. It was well worth the wait.
I think the premise of the game is best compared to the concept behind The Hunger a Games, except it's different in many key aspects. For one, the participants don't necessarily have to kill one another, and their needs are all provided for. This particular "game" isn't a spectator sport. There are more regulations in Monokuma's game too. Plus, the participants aren't aware of what they're getting into in advance. Monokuma has more involvement in things as well. Let's just say that this particular premise is much more twisted and sadistic.
Gameplay is split into segments. People say it's a mix between Persona, Zero Escape, and Phoenix Wright. I never checked out any Phoenix Wright games, but the trial aspect, and the investigative aspect do corespondent with what I've heard about that particular series. The social link side of Persona has some similarities to the social aspect of DR though, and the overall premise does have some similarities to the Zero Escape series. The game is just as two- faced as Monokuma. There's a false sense of security when the participants are able to go about their daily lives, and interact peacefully, but when someone is murdered, that all goes out the window.
I could keep going on about DR, but I like it a lot. Has anyone else checked out this particular vita title, or the anime based on it? Heck, is anyone else remotely interested in this crazy title? If so, feel free to continue this discussion, so I don't feel like I'm talking to a wall.
