I just found out today that cartoons won't be airing on Saturday mornings anymore. I heard it on the radio, and decided to look it up online, and sure enough, I came across articles like this one: www.mtv.com/news/1953575/saturday-morning-cartoons/"]http://www.mtv.com/news/1953575/saturday-morning-cartoons/ How do you feel about this recent news? I can see the reasoning behind the decision to pull the plug on something that isn't bringing in very many viewers, because kids are odd nowadays, but I do wish cartoons would keep going. I mean, I do kind of want my kids to experience the joy of cartoons, when I have kids that is. Plus, I won't allow them to have a cell phone till they're at least 12, will restrict and monitor their internet use, and probably limit it to a half hour period a day, and restrict the amount of time they can spend gaming. Is it hypocritical? Yes, but I have bad enough habits as it is. I imagine it's inevitable that our kids will develop worse habits, but cartoons are a Tross approved pastime for kids, so I'll definitely allow that. I just hope I won't end up having to purchase a bunch of old cartoons just so my kids can enjoy them though. I hope Teletoon is still around, at least. I'm sure cartoons were replaced with CG shows years ago, but they're still preferable to things like shipfic and creepypasta that are found on the Internet.

I haven’t seen a decent cartoon (e.g., a modern one) in 15+ years so this news doesn’t bother me at all. If all people want to do is show mediocre new age garbage to children who don’t know the first thing about quality in entertainment then this might actually be a great decision.
I’m guessing this is in response to everyone being on their computers and cell phones in this day and age though. Fewer people are watching television. In any case, I think parents should purchase older cartoons on DVD so that their children can experience decent ones. =P

This is sad news indeed. Saturday mornings were always a grand thing to look forward to when I was a kid. Mondays sucked, but knowing that Saturday would bring me Digimon and Yu-Gi-Oh! was what got me through the week. Even just the shows I casually liked prior to the aforementioned shows were good fun. For our future children, we wouldn't necessarily have to resort to buying DVD's of the shows we enjoyed; there's always Netflix after all. Poisoooooon. You have to watch MLP:FiM.

I have to say, good to see you Poison. . I too have noticed a decline in quality of cartoons, at least from what little I've seen, and I don't personally count cheap or scary looking CG as cartoons, but there's a lot of that around now too, including pointless remakes/reboots/continuations of older shows that could just have easily have stuck to their original art style that worked just fine. I do confess to taking up a cartoon about colourful anthropomorphic ponies battling all sorts of mythological creatures and opponents as they learn lessons on friendship, but I do have a hard time picturing Poison as a pegasister. Still, it is reassuring that a modern cartoon exists that I like, and it has been a very long time since I saw an animated movie in theatres. I hope shows like FiM and Adventure Time will eventually inspire more studios to bring back classic animation, but only time will tell.

Yeah, quality has been declining for quite a while; I'd say that it began in the 2000's. I blame a lot of Cartoon Network's content for its overuse of simplistic/ugly 2D animation style as well as the channel's eventual shift to live-action shows (thus contradicting the station's name). But everything comes and goes in cycles; I can definitely see MLP:FiM and Adventure Time rekindling an interest in quality cartoon screenwriting sooner rather than later.

According to my research, it airs a little bit of live action stuff, but it's still primarily centered around animation, and since it's an entire channel, that must still include Saturday mornings. To be fair, the 2000s killed a lot of things. Thankfully I had largely moved on to Teletoon at Night before the 2000s progressed too far. Even then, that network(later renamed The Detour) definitely declined in quality. It aired a lot of great animated TV shows for kids in their teens, but eventually replaced a lot of them with more Family Guy and Futurama, and maybe more of The Simpsons too. Don't get me wrong, the first few seasons of Family Guy were solid, but the show only went downhill from there, and as solid as Groening's shows are, The Simpsons has been past its prime for a long time, and God forbid other shows could get their due. I actually have Bromwell High on DVD. It's a very limited set, with no extra features, but it contains the whole series, which sadly only lasted for 13 episodes.
