I think this needs a thread, so here it is. I would prefer if we could have PS1 Classics on the PS4, but barring that, I'll take what we can get. Of course, it would be better with an AC adaptor and controllers with analog sticks, but it's still better than nothing. Also, I'm super stoked about Tekken 3 finally getting an official re-release. I assumed that obscure Gon cameo was the reason why we couldn't have it on the PS3, so Sony must have worked something out here. Also, here's a fun discussion I'm caught up in that has been entertaining me over the past few days: lists.cheatcc.com/815 Scroll down to the comments.

I don't get why people bash the Classic for its price since it does come down to around $10 per game, which is more than fair considering that there's hardware thrown into the mix. I'm not currently interested in the classic, but I suppose it could change depending on what the other 15 games are.

Actually, it’s $5/game if you live in the US as thee are 20 games on there, and the base price is $99.99. It’s a little more here in Canada but that’s to be expected. Fair enough. It comes down to whether you’re interested in the games offered. I think Sony’s trying to increase hype by revealing games gradually.

Yes, that does come down to $5, which is far better. It'll be interesting to see what other games they announce for it. I haven't even heard of 1 or 2 of the initial games they revealed thus far.

Yeah, a couple of them are a little more obscure, but I guess that's a good thing as it means I've never played them. Nostalgia alone only goes so far. I mean, trying to track down a copy of Tekken 3 in good condition would probably be fairly costly on its own, and more of a hassle than I would like. However, I would like to be able to check out some games I've never played before. At least that would get me some extra hours of entertainment. Granted, we live in an age where if you want what passes as the full experience for Tekken 7 thus far, you're looking at about the cost of this plug-and-play console with 20 PS1 Classics. Incidentally, that's why in spite of being a huge Tekken fan, I still don't have the latest game.

It looks like they just released the full list of games. I've barely heard of half of the games listed. And there's no Tomb Raider, Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, or Castlevania. I think Sony may have messed up here.

I think Sony may have messed up here. Yeah...I agree. I'm still getting it as I've been wanting an official re-release of Tekken 3 for a long time now, but I was expecting the full list to be better. Several of them are games that I've either been told have better sequels or I can verify that personally. Although, I also understand wanting to present first games in some cases from a story perspective. Syphon Filter makes the most sense if you can start from the beginning, but it also works best as an ongoing storyline with its sequels, which suggests Sony may be planning a "sequel machine" down the road. The absence of Tomb Raider also baffles me from that angle, as including the first game here could have meant including the second in the next classic console. By the way, Japan is getting Parasite Eve on their system, and we aren't. I can understand not having Crash and Spyro due to the recent remakes, although something like Crash Bash or CTR would have made sense. I think if another fighting game were to be included besides Tekken 3, Sony should have gone with Street Fighter Alpha 3, especially since that's a great example of a 2D fighter, or perhaps that could have been included in place of Super Puzzle Fighter II. I would have preferred platformers like Tomba or Jersey Devil to what's on here. I don't much care about racing games, and can understand not wanting to pay to license all the cars in the Gran Turismo games, but I would have liked to see a game like NASCAR Rumble, or a kart racer like Toon Town Racing or the previously mentioned CTR. There are definitely better RPGs that could be on there, although I guess FFVII has to be on everything these days. I've never played Wild Arms but that might be the RPG highlight for me. I'm somewhat ok with being unfamiliar with some of the games as if a game is new to me, that's great. I won't be approaching those games with rose-coloured glasses, as I don't have any memories of playing them, and therefore, I can judge them...still subjectively, but based more on their merits or lack thereof as I perceive them. Also, there's the fact that I'm getting to try games I haven't played before. On the flip side, I do wish more of my childhood was on the system, although Tekken 3, Oddworld: Abe's Odyssey and Metal Gear Solid were all definitely a part of that. I'm also not sure if the Destruction Derby game included is the one I had, and I do distinctly remember having Cool Boarders 2, even if it was a footnote at best in my PlayStation experience. I also look forward to finally playing the Arranged Mode of the first Resident Evil game, as I've never had that version before. No, this system isn't a total write-off. It's just a slight disappointment. I'm not canceling my pre-order, but it could definitely be a lot better.
