I thought I'd create a poll to see where everyone's musical tastes lie. What's your favorite genre of music? Any favorite bands or musicians you would like to share with us?

I guess I need to side with heavy metal this time around. I love rock and a bunch of other genres (and sub genres!) that might be super niche and/or simply not listed here but that is just the way it is. There is no way to make a simple poll of this nature and represent all of the musical genres in existence. It is just not going to happen.
I’m more passionate about music than video games for some reason. This is nothing new but not very many people realize this. Here are some of the bands in my playlist right now: Die Ärzte, Poets of the Fall, Oomph!, Lacrimas Profundere, Coheed and Cambria, The Birthday Massacre, Bullet For My Valentine, A Day To Remember, Odium, Agalloch, Sentenced and Katatonia. If you have heard of any of these bands then give yourself a pat on the back.

I don't know if I deserve a pat on the back for knowing any of those bands, since I spent a great deal of time discussing music with you, Poison. Then again, I did introduce you to Poets. This was a hard poll to vote in. I usually listen to whatever's on the radio, which is usually pop and r&b, among other things, but I would be hard pressed to say pop is my favorite genre of music. I've enjoyed some metal in recent years, but it can't say I ever got enough into it, to call it my number one genre, since I listen to it here and there, but not everyday. I went with classical/soundtrack, because I've been on a videogame soundtrack kick, which mostly has its roots in symphony/orchestra, or classical, if you will. On a side note, I let a non-gamer friend listen to some of the winter tracks we posted in that other thread, and he wondered why there were no vocals. He's a pretty simple guy, but I've personally come to enjoy simple instrumental tracks. That's probably a result of being a gamer, and hearing instrumental tracks daily, through videogames. Just as I've found I don't have to understand the lyrics to enjoy a song, I've also found that songs don't even need to have vocals, period, for me to enjoy them. I actually have an uncle whose favorite genre is symphony/orchestra. I didn't get it when I was younger, but I think I do now. There's more to music than just lyrics.

I hate to tag a favorite genre, but gun to my head, I'd probably say Rap/Hip-Hop (which isn't on the poll, BTW). Rap is a genre where if you don't do your legwork or listen to anything beyond the Billboard charts, you're REALLY missing out. The same could be said for every genre, but I feel that rap falls victim to generalizations based on what's on the radio moreso than every other genre.
Others worth noting for me are Alt/Indie Rock and Electronic music.

EDIT: Though I think rap/hip-hop falls under R&B, or at least I think it did when I looked up the list of music genres that I referred to when I compiled the list.
