Collections: My favorite part about this generation is the number of HD collections that have been rereleased. Re-experiencing my nostalgia in HD is great, and it's nice to check out games that I hadn't been exposed to yet.
Backlogs: I sorta have a backlog, but not necessarily of games I "own" as much as "games I intend to buy", which is somewhat extensive at this point, but is totally doable given the rare occasion that a game I'm interested is released. The only game I own that I haven't gotten to is LittleBigPlanet 2, which has been in the shrink wrap since January 2013 (I'd like to trophy hunt a bit in LBP1 before starting it; I deleted my digital copy a long time ago with the intention of picking up the GOTY edition but have yet to do so). And there's Half-Life 2 as part of the Orange Box, but I mostly picked up the Orange Box for Portal and not much else (I did partially get it for Team Fortress 2, but it didn't impress me much). Going with what you said, the PS4 is out and there isn't anything that interests me right now, so that gives me ample time to clear up my backlog before anything interesting does come around.

Hmmmm...falling behind could make for an interesting extension of the topic of backlogs. Thanks Dax. I think I know what I'm going to write about tomorrow morning. I was going to post about Symphony of the Night, but I think I'll push that back another day. Sorry, my last post was a little long. You got me monologuing about a particular topic, that would have made for a nice blog post. Oh well. There are always more topics to blog about. I just have to keep coming up with new material, which isn't as easy as you'd think, but I've got enough material for now. I also just signed up for a Gamespress account, so that might help a little bit. I also have a N4G account to try to pull in readers, but I'll still keep re-posting stuff periodically on Fextralife as well. Finding the time to play games, as in, actually doing the thing I'm blogging about, has been even more difficult, ironically enough.

Heh, that actually is what comes to mind when I think of the term "monologuing". I ended up writing about Symphony of the Night anyways. Just wasn't feeling the falling behind post.

I've actually never played Symphony of the Night (or any other Castlevania game, for that matter). Just another one of those games that I hadn't gotten around to. I agree with your statement on enjoying older games; I feel like being able to thoroughly enjoy, say, Ocarina of Time two generations later can solve any dispute regarding nostalgia vs. quality (that being the idea that games were generally better in previous generations than they are now). I've been meaning to check out the Tomb Raider collection as it contains the remake of the original, but who knows when that will come along; money certainly isn't an issue as it's only $15 now.

Oh, you simply must try a Castlevania game. Most of the Metroidvania style games play somewhat like a 2d equivalent to a sandbox game, except, usually take place almost entirely in one castle for some reason. What I like most about it though is its inclusion of various mythological creatures, as well as its iconic mix of role-playing, platforming, creature slaying action. Yeah, the handheld entries may look dated, since they are 2d side-scrollers, usually with few impressive effects, but the music is awesome, and the gameplay is top notch. Actually, Symphony of the Night was originally a console game, but console Castlevanias have gone more into the 3d realm. I still haven't played Lord of Shadows, come to think of it. I was raised on the 2d, Metroidvania type games though, so I'm not sure if it'll be my cup of tea. Then again, I'll never know till I try it. I never did play a retro Castlevania until now, and enjoyed that, despite being confused at first that I couldn't bring up my inventory, so anything's possible.

Nintendo: I was also disappointed to hear that they've decided not to hold a press conference for the second year in a row. In my opinion, it takes the fun out of E3. Though I'm also a lot tighter with Sony than I am with Nintendo (still only on the Nintendo train for all things Zelda), I tend to be more impressed with their press conferences. They usually pack a decent number of surprises. As for the Wii U situation, Nintendo needs to appeal to the hardcore users even more; they're doing better than they were before, but they need to hit players with a ton of first party content. For instance, there hasn't been a new Starfox game in 2 console generations (not counting the 3DS port of Starfox 64). A Starfox Wii U announcement would really get people's attention among other games they could announce. Sony: A problem with the PS4 (or with the new generation in general) is a serious lack of exclusive titles. If a game is available for the PS4, chances are it's also available for the Xbox One. If it's not available for the Xbox One, then it's on the PS3. Take Watch_Dogs for example. One would think that that would be the PS4's shining glory upon its release, but the fact that it'll also be on the PS3 takes all of that away. Tross, when the time draws closer to E3, I'd love to hear your hopes and expectations. -crosses fingers for Kingdom Hearts III release date-

I also have an article planned for tips for those attending the event, based on experience. My article about Microsoft is up. I might have been a little harsh on them, but that's genuinely how I've been feeling about them in the last year or so, and the xb1. The point of these articles wasn't to troll, but to point out areas where each of the big 3 can improve, and it's all meant to be in good fun. I may have come across as serious, but my decision to trash talk the big three was anything but. I was originally going to stop at Nintendo, but then I figured I could also do the same for the others. Edit: WTF? My piece on Sony is easily the most successful thing I've posted on N4G. I've had almost 1000 viewers today. Not only is it a disgenuine piece, because I don't agree with most of what I wrote, but I didn't put as much effort into it, as I ought to have, and most people on N4G think I'm some kind of anti-Sony troll, just because I said they could probably do better. Also, most of the comments are from people who say they hate my piece, and some even say they hate my site, without any real reason. That, and it's a stupid opinion piece, which you think wouldn't even be worth the time of day for most people. Why then, has it been so successful? Also, what's wrong with a black background? I personally like it.

Ever since you told me the rumor that they paid off Namco to hold off the localization of the PS3 version of Tales of Vesperia, my hatred for them has increased tenfold. I wouldn't be surprised if it's true. MS does play dirty like that. It's unknown if that's really the truth, but I believe it. I just posted my MS piece on N4G, 37 mins ago. It has so far been approved by 3 people, out of 10, has hit 50 degrees, and has 6 comments. Seriously, WTF? This stuff is drivel. I know it is. I wrote it. For my Sony piece, I actually cheated a little, and drew upon the popular opinion, though I stand by the notion that Sony could do better, because all three could. My MS piece is 100% genuine. Is it really considered trolling, if I post something as an opinion piece? Do people not know what an opinion is? Heck, don't these people go outside? Oh well. It's working out for me, because people are flocking to my site at an alarming rate. People can post negative comments all they want. Actions speak louder than words.

What is N4G? And no, you are most certainly not trolling if you're simply giving your opinion. And don't sell yourself short on your writing, either; it does sound like something one would say were they being paid to write it. I should know, being the grammar nazi that I am.

And don't sell yourself short on your writing, either; it does sound like something one would say were they being paid to write it. I should know, being the grammar nazi that I am. News for Gamers. It's a site that lets anyone post stuff, and link it to their site. You can find it here: n4g.com That's my article, on the top banner, front page. It will probably be off of there, in just over two and a half hours, since I think that stuff only stays on there for 24 hours. It was also one of the few pieces they publish on Cheat CC: www.cheatcc.com Click news, and scroll down to Latest news from N4G.com, and you can see it there. I have had over 2000 visitors to my site, since midnight last night. I've also made $4.73. It doesn't sound like much, but more people have clicked my ads than ever before. Today's piece takes a shot at videogame journalism, and questions whether the problem stems from the people who read it. People can comment about how awful my writing is all they want. They're still reading it, in droves.
Edit: Looks like my posts were taken down by a moderator, for violating a rule against linking opinion pieces to a blog. It took long enough for someone to do it, and the damage is already done. People know about my site now, and you can still link to my piece on cheatcc.com. I guess I've had too much excitement over the last couple days, so someone had to burst my bubble.

I tried Pokemon Emerald once, but I couldn't really get into it. Pokemon was never really for me. I can never get over the idea that it's Final Fantasy with 1 party member at a time. I have an idea! If your blog is getting as many views as you say it is, perhaps you could work a topic in so that you can show off my new Facebook page? Pretty please? www.facebook.com/pages/Localize-Tales-of-Vesperia-for-PS3/1490616231152861?ref=hl

My views have gone down to a couple hundred per day, sadly, since I stopped posting playfully trolling opinion pieces. I will write a piece about your Vesperia page tomorrow, though. I think I will try linking to it on N4G as well. I can't guarantee that it will get enough people to approve it, but it's worth a shot. If it gets posted on the main page, people should see it. It will give me another news piece to try posting too. Most of the time, by the time I even read about something on Games Press, someone has already posted about it on N4G, so I don't often get the chance to post news over there.

Luckily I don't own a smart phone, and I rarely receive texts, so that kind of distraction doesn't exist for me (and thank goodness for that, or else I would be bothered constantly by Facebook notifications). However when it comes to writing my fanfic, I am easily distracted. The same machine that allows me to write also happens to be the same machine that connects me to the internet. Before I had Wifi, I was able to get the first volume of my fanfic out in just two months. Since then, each volume has taken over a year to complete. Of course, I also attribute that to my being extra picky with wording, proofreading, etc.
