I may actually legitimately be into a comic book series. The world may be ending and the earth may be thrown off its axis, but hear me out. And no, I don't count pony comics, mostly because I only read them by association with the show. Over the holidays I played through Telltale's The Wolf Among Us, and was quite intrigued by the premise, enough so that with there being no confirmation of another season on the horizon, I figured I might try reading a little bit of the comics. I ordered the first deluxe edition and it arrived today. I'm not committing to anything yet, but I talked with some people who read this series, and they think I will like it a lot. I haven't read any of it yet, but if I enjoy it, that's just going to be one more vice I have, as if gaming and ponies aren't enough. Either way, I doubt I will be collecting up this series very quickly, but be prepared for a lot of natural disasters to occur worldwide this year, like the time I watched Hockey of my own volition. That really upset the natural order of things, but thankfully I went back to not watching sports, so all is well there. I don't know if I'll be able to claim the same a year from now with this comic series.

You should check out Once Upon a Time if you haven't done so yet; both that and The Wolf Among Us were derived from that comic series.

Technically Once Upon a Time is loosely inspired by a working agreement that kind of fell through, but somehow allowed them to make a similar TV show. Still, even though I don't watch TV, I don't read comics either. TWAU is a direct tie in to the comics, but the jury's still out on whether or not it's my thing. I'm two issues in, but I've been warned that the first story arc is considered the worst by many, and it is engaging enough for what it's worth. Issue 2 has less of the stilted introduction dialogue, but I'm already getting sick of Prince Charming, and I'm not fond of all the filler scenes. Issue 1 has more focus IMHO. I can't say I dislike the series so far, but I have yet to be hooked on it and I'm not quite getting the feeling I had throughout TWAU.

Well, I finally decided to check out more Deluxe Editions. I still have my copy of the first one, so I bought the second and third, and it seems like the fourth is out of print for some reason (and only that one), but since I found a seller from the UK that had it for a reasonable price, I invested in that too. I'll probably hold off on buying more for a good while, but it's a good start.

I took a look at Fables shortly after finishing The Wolf Among Us (may the sequel rest in peace) and I was astounded at how lengthy the series is. I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to find the time to check them out, though I really really want to.

I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to find the time to check them out, though I really really want to. That’s what has held me back so far too. Maybe I shouldn’t have waited for so long, but oh well. I started with getting just the first Deluxe Edition though. That way I wasn't obligating myself to read an entire series, but just ten comics to see if I liked it. I did. At the time I just didn't have the time or money to keep going with it, and I wasn't sure where to put all these Deluxe Editions. In any case, the first Deluxe Edition contains the first ten issues, spanning the first two story arcs (of five issues each) which gives a decent sample of what the series is all about (not that The Wolf Among Us hasn't served that purpose too) and fans claim that it's all uphill from there. The first arc is often compared to The Wolf Among Us, insofar as it's about Bigby solving a murder case with Snow White helping on the side, but that's about where the similarities end. At its core though, if you like the Criminal Minds Fairytale Edition aspect of The Wolf Among Us...I don't think this first arc in the comics is as deep, but that aspect is there and it's definitely worth checking out. The second arc is interesting as it takes place on the famous Farm, and involves a coup among other things. It's even more suspensful IMHO and a great departure from the kind of story I've gotten used to in this universe, plus it's neat to see the place that's alluded to so much in The Wolf Among Us and the first comic arc. It actually stars Snow, not Bigby who's still back in Fabletown while this is going on and although fans say it's one of the worst arcs in the series I actually really enjoyed it.

I can see myself potentially checking it out at the library someday, though I'm still juggling between Bleach and Attack on Titan. Maybe I'll start reading Fables after both stories end (that is to say if they'll ever end, Bleach especially).

I mean, that was before I swore off anime and manga series that don't end. By that logic it might sound strange that I'm more ok with ongoing comics, but I have my reason. I also haven't actually taken up an ongoing comic and although this one is long, it has ended and I may or may not continue all the way with it. In fact I've not actually decided if I really want to commit to it. I'm just checking out a bit more of it. Hitting up the library wouldn't be a bad way to do it, come to think of it.

Yup, and unfortunately it's been in its "final story arc" for years. This arc is probably close to be longer than all previous arcs combined. I wouldn't be surprised if Attack on Titan turned out that way too, but I do think it is slowly being herded towards an ending of sorts.

Maybe one day I'll decide to catch up on Bleach. I'll see. I have a huge backlog of Pony stuff now, and I'm branching out into other stuff. I don't know how long what has become a bit of a fairytale phase will last, but between Grimm's fairytales and Fables comics I'm getting quite a fill of it.
