So my new cat, Fiona, came home on Saturday. She has been pretty skittish the last few days and has been hiding a lot, and is still frightened by loud noises. Apparently she was found wandering near a lake during the heavy cold snap we had at the beginning of January so it's a miracle she survived and understandable that her response to loud noises is to hide. Today she has come out a lot more and we decided to let her upstairs, which she finds fascinating. We've been keeping her in the basement to let her get used to the place gradually, but she seems to be warming up to her new home, and her new family. Here's hoping it won't be too long until she feels at home.
Oh, and this thread is for any and all pet discussion.

My mom said Luna was a rescue who was taken from a group of dog-fighting representatives who buys puppies from gullible Amish people a.) don't spay and neuter their pets and b.) were tricked into believing that they were selling their dogs to them believing that they would be given good homes. So thankfully Luna never saw any kind of action like that. My folks have had her for 4 months now (she is 6 months old now) and has finally stopped biting, lol. Puppy teeth are like needles, yowch! It's insane how quickly she grew, though. She was just this tiny thing when she was 8 weeks old and now she's huge.

I think it's a survival mechanism that they more or less mature in the first year or so. My cat's really depressed because she has to wear a cone since she kept licking her wound from getting spayed, which may be infected now. She might have a fever now too, though the vet said that her temperature may have just been high due to stress (she was very stressed). When we first got her she was quite active and moved around a lot, but after a day of trying to force her cone off, I think she's finally given up and seems to be moping on a couch most of the time. We're not sure if she knows how to eat and drink with the cone either so we've been bringing her bowls up to her. It's going to be a fun week, and it doesn't help that the cat gave me a look like she wants to cry. To be fair she's with a new family in a new place and now has to wear a big thing on her head that prevents her from fitting in small spaces like she's used to, and she was found surviving in a forest so she's used to being a healthy outdoor cat with no cone. It's probably a lot for her to get used to. To make things worse she may have to go to the vet again if she is infected. I'm not looking forward to that. Oh well, I'm sure she'll recover soon and be back to normal.

As a bit of an update, my cat has since gotten her cone off and has slowly gotten settled in, plus she's slowly becoming easier to manage and isn't always trying to climb on everything anymore. She's still a ways off from being trusted to wander the house without supervision, but it's a start. She certainly has a lot of energy. My sister came home one day after being gone for a suspiciously long time with a ton of glittery cat balls from every store she could find that sells them, so now our cat is lousy with them and doesn't seem to know what to do with them all. I guess it's kind of like me with my videogame backlog, except that's an issue I brought upon myself.
On a sadder note, I found out what killed my last cat. Apparently it's a kidney disease common to Persians, and having to drink a lot more water is a symptom. I'm not sure if we could have saved her with that information, and she was almost 17, so I guess I shouldn't think too hard on it. Plus, if our old cat hadn't died we wouldn't have gotten our current cat.

A few years back my mom bought our last dog this pink, spiked, phallic-shaped chew toy that she couldn't stand. We'd roll it over to her and she would almost jump away from it. She wasn't much of a dog to play with toys, but she would run for days in the backyard when she was younger. The dog we had before her (my first) until 2005 was a golden retriever. She ended up having leukemia and we had to put her down. What made me angry is that she didn't even live to be 7. She was a bigger dog, but she hadn't even begun to slow down. Some diseases in pets are genetic, just like some diseases in humans. I definitely wouldn't dwell on it because it'll drive you insane if you think about it too much. All good things must come to an end, as they say. Though I remember reading a while back that scientists are in the early stages of testing a drug that draws out a pet's lifespan, so hopefully that'll become streamlined and approved sooner rather than later. Luna has grown so big, so fast. I went home for Christmas and she was a little bit bigger than she was over Thanksgiving, but my mom has since shared pictures of her on Facebook and she is HUUUGE. She's grown a little more skin and looks a little flabby around the mouth and her nose has doubled in size. Apparently she tries to "talk" at times, so my mom is trying to get her to say "Mama", much like the puppy in this video:
