Ah yes, the "summer drought". I feel the same about it as you do; I have games to get to and new releases don't help me at all. It's a nice change of pace.

I don't mind it at all, and there are sales for existing games too, so if anyone perceives a drought, they can purchase games they haven't played for a reduced price. I just don't subscribe to the notion that we need a ton of game releases all year round.

Man, you won't believe this idiot I encountered on N4G: n4g.com/user/blogpost/tross/528127 I weep for the world that such stupidity exists. I shouldn't have given this person the time of day, but I had nothing better to do. It's a shame that I need N4G to promote my blog, because I deal with stupidity on a regular basis, but this user takes the cake.

In fact I've sat here for more than 5 minutes trying to add to that last sentence, so I'm literally at a loss for words.

I was kind enough not to point out that the person looking like a fool, and who takes things way too seriously, is the one who keeps going on and on, which is certainly not I. I missed an opportunity for a Princess Bride meme. He uses the word immature a lot, but to paraphrase Inigo, I don't think it means what he thinks it means. Edit: Someone with common sense responded. I'm all out of bubbles, so I'll just have to watch this conversation as it unfolds, but I don't mind that.

I can't help but think of that quote when I hear Kefka scream, "Inconceivable!" upon defeat in Dissidia: Final Fantasy. I'll have to check back later to see how the madness unfolds!

I don't even know that other person, so that's just ridiculous.

I'm not a big fan of DLC. Patches are necessary to fix game bugs and the like, but I feel like the game should be released with everything upon its release. I feel like I'm being scammed every time I choose to buy DLC (which was only a few times, but still).

I feel like I'm being scammed every time I choose to buy DLC (which was only a few times, but still). I agree that lots of companies use dlc as an excuse to withhold content, so they can double dip on profit. But, at least from my standpoint, it's nothing new, and as much as it would be nice to go back to the way things were, pre- dlc, it just isn't going to happen. Besides, there have been cases of devs releasing great dlc for an already complete game, and in the case of free dlc, it allows devs to focus on getting the core game out, then giving the extra content their full attention, at no extra cost to the consumer. One of the points I was trying to get across(though I must not have done it very well), was that it's a tool, which can be used for good, or to scam consumers. It sounds like you've experienced more of the latter, which is not too surprising, since that is a common practice, but devs are to blame IMHO, not the existence of dlc. I wasn't completely satisfied with that particular post, mind you, so I didn't post it on N4G(not that they're a sophisticated audience, or anything), or any of my affiliate blogs that I sometimes re-post on.

I understand what you meant, and yes, some DLC can be pretty neat, and thus acceptable if the price isn't too steep. But sometimes, DLC comes in the form of something where that blatantly look like something that should have been in the base package in the first place. As far as what I mean by "acceptable" DLC, I am mainly referring to things like skins at no more than $5 a pop (preferably $3), or something of that nature. The "scam-worthy" DLC, or at least what I personally define as scam-worthy, are things like new multiplayer maps and bonus stories like The Last of Us: Left Behind that cost $15 and last only 2 hours. I've heard that the Metal Gear Solid V demo costs $30, and that only lasts 2 hours (though since most of the game consists of cutscenes, I've heard that only 20 to 40 minutes of the demo is actually playable).

I can't defend that Left Behind dlc. I would have bought that if the price wasn't way too steep. MGS is famous for being cutscene heavy, but I've heard about that demo, and can't believe Konami tried to pass that off as a product worth $30. Bonus stories can make for some great dlc if done right, and I'm fine with them costing more than skins, because they are more significant, but it does seem like the big studios love to overcharge for that stuff.

Deadfall Adventures seems like it should be right up my alley. Thank you for bringing it to my attention! The FPS usually isn't my kind of genre, but this looks different.

Deadfall Adventures seems like it should be right up my alley. Thank you for bringing it to my attention! The FPS usually isn't my kind of genre, but this looks different. That's courtesy of Gamespress, which isn't usually as great a resource as you'd think, but sometimes it is, and yeah, that game does look awesome. I'm not opposed to guns, and a first person perspective. I just don't care for the homogenized nature of a genre where I feel like I've already played the majority of what it has to offer, since there just isn't enough variety. Once in a while though, a FPS does something different, and I like that. Besides, if it was just another puzzle platformer, it would probably be too similar to Tomb Raider and Uncharted, and that particular combination of genre elements looks interesting.
